Egypt seeks ICAO Council seat, backs African aviation integration
CAIRO – 30 May 2025: Egypt supports a stronger African voice in global aviation and seeks a seat on the ICAO Council, Civil Aviation Minister Sameh Hefny said during AFI Aviation Week 2025 in Zimbabwe. He emphasized Egypt's commitment to regional integration and sustainable development, highlighting efforts to boost the African Single Air Transport Market and open skies initiatives. Hefny held talks with African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) leaders to deepen cooperation and secure backing for Egypt's ICAO candidacy ahead of elections in September. AFCAC officials voiced support, citing Egypt's infrastructure and regulatory contributions to African aviation. A seat on the ICAO Council represents membership in the governing body of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), which is responsible for setting standards and guidelines for international civil aviation. The ICAO Council is composed of 36 member states elected by the ICAO Assembly. These member states represent various regions and have a significant role in shaping aviation policies and practices worldwide.

Egypt, Uzbekistan discuss agricultural cooperation
Agricultural land CAIRO – 29 May 2025: Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk discussed with a high-level delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan under the Director of the Cabinet Secretariat for Investments, Exports, Trade, Agriculture, and Water Management ways to enhance joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields of the agricultural sector. The meeting comes within the framework of presidential directives to strengthen cooperation with Uzbekistan and to follow up on the technical aspects of implementing the outcomes of joint committees. During the meeting, both sides reviewed the agricultural capabilities available in Egypt and Uzbekistan and explored opportunities to develop partnerships in agricultural and livestock production, exchange of expertise and technical knowledge, and enhancement of trade exchange in agricultural products. Farouk emphasized the deep historical ties between Egypt and Uzbekistan across various fields and at all levels. He also highlighted the political leadership's keenness to develop these relations, including in the vital agricultural sector. The Minister of Agriculture expressed his ministry's readiness to provide all forms of support and expertise to ensure the success of joint cooperation in achieving food security and agricultural development in both countries. He also referred to his recent meeting with Mansurbek Kilichev, Uzbekistan's Ambassador to Egypt, during which the importance of strengthening cooperation in various agricultural fields was discussed. The minister explained that in recent years, under the leadership of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi, Egypt has witnessed significant development and a genuine renaissance in all fields, including the agricultural sector, which now receives considerable attention from the political leadership. He noted that Egypt has taken many steps to improve the investment climate and simplify procedures to encourage investors. He added that the agricultural sector in Egypt holds great investment potential and offers many opportunities that can be included in areas of joint cooperation. The Minister of Agriculture directed the External Agricultural Relations Department to organize intensive field visits for the Uzbek delegation to various agricultural projects and entities in Egypt, including research centers, institutes, laboratories, and model farms producing various crops. These visits aim to post the delegation on important experiences that could benefit the exchange and transfer of expertise. For their part, the Uzbek delegation stressed their country's political leadership's commitment to strengthening joint cooperation in various areas, especially agriculture and food security, and to intensifying efforts to enhance agricultural relations between the two countries. They expressed interest in boosting cooperation with Egypt in the agricultural field and benefiting from Egypt's distinguished expertise in the sector. They stressed the importance of exchanging visits and experiences between specialists on both sides to advance the prospects of cooperation. They also discussed ways to increase trade in crops and agricultural products, especially since the trade balance between the two countries reached around $55 million in 2024. (

"If one thing is really important in this club, we need to face our fans in this moment, and give something to our fans around the globe. We want to do that, but sometimes it's really hard. "We were not really focused in the last game (on Wednesday), everyone can feel it. In that moment I can understand the fans and the players." Harry Maguire, Andre Onana and Diogo Dalot will not feature in Friday's match as they travelled to India instead for a club sponsor event. Amorim also ruled Luke Shaw out. Matthijs de Ligt, Mason Mount and Joshua Zirkzee did not play in Malaysia, but the Portuguese coach gave them a clean bill of health at Hong Kong Stadium for their final match of the tour. "Of course the team is tired because we flew to Malaysia and with the jet lag we had a game in difficult conditions," Amorim said. "But we are ready to play again and are really happy to be here." Hong Kong's coach Ashley Westwood, a former United academy player, suggested that Amorim's team would have preferred post-season rest over extra games and travel. "If truth be told, no players want to do (a post-season tour), you want to recover," Westwood told reporters. "Most Manchester United players are reporting for international duty on June 2. They probably need this like a hole in the head."

Premier League clubs agreed to open a pre-Club World Cup transfer window, opens new tab on June 1 for 10 days to allow teams to sign players before the tournament. "We have clearly identified who exactly are the targets, in what positions, and we have our clear number one option, our clear number two option," Al Mubarak said in an interview with City's club media channels. "And we'll go about our business and it will be very clear, very swift. And our objective is to try to be ready with the new squad for the Club World Cup." City face Wydad AC in their first game of the tournament on June 18. The team, bidding for a fifth successive Premier League title, suffered a mid-season free fall and finished third in the table, not securing a Champions League berth until the final day of the season. Al Mubarak admitted City had not been successful in last summer's transfer window. "Last summer, we probably should have been more aggressive in some of the changes we needed to do," Al Mubarak said. "We didn't do that and that ended up costing us this year. We already started that rebuild of this team in January." City brought in Omar Marmoush, Abdukodir Khusanov, Vitor Reis and Nico Gonzalez during the January window. They lost to Crystal Palace in the FA Cup final, however, and ended the season without a trophy for the first time since 2016-17. "I think all the players, they're excited, they're excited about coming back. Nobody feels good about how we finished the season," Al Mubarak said. "They want to come back hungry. And I can see the hunger. I was speaking to Rodri as an example, he's looking for games. Erling (Haaland) didn't want to go on vacation." Spanish midfielder Rodri, the 2024 Ballon d'Or winner, suffered a serious knee injury in September and did not return to action until the season's final two games.

Egypt reiterates commitment to preserving sacred religious status of St. Catherine's Monastery
CAIRO – 29 May 2025: Egypt has reiterated its full commitment to preserving the 'unique and sacred religious status' of Saint Catherine's Monastery and preventing its violation. In a Thursday statement, the Presidency affirmed that the recent court ruling consolidates this status, aligning with the points President Abdel Fattah El Sisi emphasized during his recent visit to Athens on May 7. The Presidency also affirmed the importance of preserving the close and fraternal relations that bind the two countries and peoples and ensuring that they are not jeopardized. Egypt's foreign ministry's official spokesman also stressed on Thursday that rumors about seizing St. Catherine's Monastery and its affiliated land are completely unfounded. The spokesperson made the remarks regarding a court ruling issued on May 28, concerning the land surrounding St. Catherine's Monastery. Upon reviewing the full text of the ruling, the following facts have become clear: "Firstly, there is absolutely no infringement on Saint Catherine's Monastery, its affiliated archaeological sites, its spiritual value, religious status, or its cemeteries," he stressed. The spokesperson emphasized that this judicial ruling marks the first time the status of the monastery has been legalized while affirming the preservation of its sacred standing. "Secondly, although there are some additional sites for which contracts were signed with local authorities — even though they are natural reserves — the ruling, out of respect for the monastery's spiritual value and high religious standing, acknowledged continued monk access to the monastery, religious sites, and archaeological areas. "Thirdly, the court ruling referred to certain remote areas within natural reserves that are completely distant from the monastery, uninhabited, and for which no ownership or possession documents exist. Therefore, these areas are considered state-owned land," he noted. The spokesperson stressed the importance of verifying the accuracy of information and refraining from drawing premature or incorrect conclusions without reviewing the full judicial ruling.
